During this camp, rising 8th grade students will make significant progress on one of their summer reading selections, Joseph Bruchac’s Code Talker: A Novel About the Navajo Marines of World War Two. Each day, campers will have time to read in a variety of settings and then dive into different aspects of literature such as the exploration of characters, setting, conflict, and theme. Along the way, readers will work on strengthening grade-level comprehension skills and learn annotation strategies to enhance understanding. At the week’s end, a progress report and activities completed will be sent home.
