Preparing for a Timed Writing -9th
Description
Preparing for a Timed Writing
9th grade

Are you feeling nervous about your first Timed Writing assignment in Upper School? Don’t be! Timed Writings require skills that can be learned, practiced, and perfected by developing best strategies in your preparation and execution. In this workshop, students will learn different ways to annotate their reading and take notes in order to best prepare for the Timed Writing. Next, students will navigate the process of writing a response step-by-step, beginning with a careful reading of the prompt, then brainstorming ideas, collecting and culling the best evidence for a response, writing quickly, and, finally, revising in a short time. Students will also learn how to structure their responses with quick and effective introductions and body paragraphs that are cohesive in thought and open with a strong topic sentence.
