Native Animal Explorers
Description
Fish and Explore is proud to offers camps that are all about our local creeks, ponds, and lakes and the animals that live in them. Nothing gets children more interested in the outdoors than encountering the animals that call it home.
Campers will hike trails and wade streams, walk pond and lake shores to find native wildlife. Campers will observe, catch, photograph and release frogs, toads, tadpoles, salamanders, lizards, turtles, crayfish, minnows, and many more small critters that live the life aquatic, and their nearby woodland neighbors.
Fish and Explore proudly practices Wildlife Catch, Photograph, and Release (Wildlife CPR).
Young explorers will embark on a journey to a different trail, park or body of water each day. Campers learn how to observe and identify a wide variety of small creatures that live in our backyards, parks, fields and waters.
Fish and Explore makes it easy for kids to understand safe capture and handling techniques that result in a better understanding and appreciation of small animals. We teach campers about the importance and beneficial roles of our native creatures and their place in our lives.
Campers learn catch, photograph and release from instructor demonstrations and examples and then quickly move to hands on practice. We incorporate principles of appreciation and understanding, so that campers learn to enjoy the wild animals as part of our ecosystem not as pets. 1 to 6 ratio (instructor to student) ensures lots of individual attention.
All campers should have good hiking shoes or sneakers, dress appropriately for the weather and outdoor activities. All of the hikes will take place in natural and wilderness environments, campers should be willing and comfortable spending time outdoors.
