ICC MAIN CENTER SUMMER CAMPS 2024 - NeoRobotics Computer Vision (Week 1) & Chess Camp
Description
NEOROBOTICS COMPUTER VISION (WEEK 1) & CHESS CAMP

In this course, students learn how to use image processing techniques
and develop simple applications in Python (OpenCV), and apply them to real-life computer vision applications. They shall use Raspberry Pi and its camera as the platform.

WEEK 1
1. Fundamentals: Students would know concepts such as variables, expressions, and how to input and generate outputs from Python programs. Students shall use a browser-based coding environment.
2. Beyond Basics: Students would learn how to bring in modularity by using subroutines and modules, and loops which they would use to write more complex programs and make simple games. They shall transition to a Raspberry PI-based system at the end of week 1.

WEEK 2
3. Computer Vision Basics: Students would learn how to connect the camera, view the image, and do simple image interactions with OpenCV. They would build applications that,
a. Display the image on screen
b. Develop a simple Camera application
c. Apply simple filters
4. Sensing the world: Students would use some common image recognition libraries and build fun programs around them. The course would not go into training image recognition models but would be focused on using them. Students shall have fun by building applications such as,
a. Counting the number of people
b. Building a smile detector
c. Building a frown detector

Device Requirements:
We encourage students to bring their own laptops with a keyboard. An Internet connection would be needed to access the programming environment. We shall provide kits in class for shared use. Robotic
components and Raspberry PI.

Please note: This camp will be taking place twice during our Summer Camps (Week 1 & Week 2). However, both weeks are mutually exclusive. Should you choose to enroll only in Week 1, the curriculum is not dependent on or affected by your absence in Week 2 & vice-versa.

CHESS CAMP:

BEGINNER CHESS CLASS:

The class is one and a half hour long, split into two segments. In the first half hour, a coach gives a lesson on a theme, idea, motif, or classical game. Students participate by debating and attempting to find the best move in certain positions. We follow a curriculum that is tailored to the level of the class. In the beginner class, Our primary focus is tactics, endgames, and identifying checkmating patterns. Homework is given to supplement the topics covered in class and reviewed the following week. We also review classical chess games to learn from the successes and failures of masters from previous eras. The class will cover basic pieces: Pawns, Knights, Bishops, Rooks, The Queens, and The King. In addition, the basic concepts such as Check, Checkmate, Castling, En Passant, and Draws. We cover these concepts using practical examples from the history of chess.

INTERMEDIATE CHESS CLASS:

The class is one and a half hour long, split into two segments. In the first half hour, a coach gives a lesson on a theme, idea, motif, or classical game. Students participate by debating and attempting to find the best move in certain positions. We follow a curriculum that is tailored to the level of the class. This intermediate class will look at how chess has changed from era to era. We will be exploring games from the early 1800s to the late 1900s and discover the amazing history of this timeless game. We will learn about the heroes of chess from Paul Morphy to Bobby Fischer. We will also go over forks, pins, skewers, remove the guard, discover attacks, decoys, and sacrifices. We cover these concepts using practical examples from the history of chess.

Every day the campers will indulge in 45 minutes of Table Tennis if time permits.
