Keitha Lindsey, Teacher

This 2 week course will highlight 3 types of writing- descriptive, narrative, and expository. The students will find their style and voice, as they explore alternative ways to approach writing.
Descriptive - 2 field trips will allow students to visualize artifacts, and paintings to describe in vivid details what they observed. At The Phillips Collection, they will study the Frank Stewart’s Nexus, an exhibit that portrays Black life in many forms; At the Arboretum, they will observe nature; and during a tour of The National Portrait Gallery, they will critique the paintings of the Obamas.
Narrative - Original poetry and prose will give the students an opportunity to be creative. Their works will be proofread for contest submissions.
