Intro to World Religions (Blended; Dongell)
Description
Summer Courses for Credit General Information

Summer Courses for Credit are restricted to CHCA students enrolled for the following school year. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and opens on 01/27/24.
At registration, you will schedule a future automatic payment for the full amount. Payment is non-refundable and non-transferable after 02/17/24 at 12:00 p.m. Payments collected on 02/23/24. If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment, the scheduled payment will be cancelled before any fees are collected. If the cancellation impacts your student’s 2024-2025 course selections, you may contact us at that time for adjustments to their schedule.
Email the teacher directly if you have questions about the course content, workload, or syllabus. No classes are held on weekends.
Because summer course schedules are condensed and academic content is uncompromised, attendance is strictly enforced, and a student cannot pass a class for which he/she is not present for the stated meeting times. Please do not register for summer classes that conflict with the student’s other summer obligations.

Students examine beliefs and practices of various eastern and western religious traditions focusing primarily on Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, and Buddhism and Taoism. Students will compare and contrast these traditions with Christianity through readings, discussion, media presentations, and field trips. By understanding the fundamental human need for the Divine, students gain skills in relating to other peoples and cultures in the world, and they gain greater depth and appreciation of their own faith by exploring similarities and differences between Christianity and other religions.

This course can count as a Social Studies elective if a student is taking it prior to their senior year and has New Testament completed. When taken during the senior year after the completion of Christian Thought, it fulfills the required senior Bible class.

Students will meet in person for only two separate mornings to take tests.

Prerequisite: Christian Thought and Spirituality when taken during the senior year, New Testament when taken prior to the senior year
