Come join us for the Mark Day School Fun Run!

The Fun Run consists of three races (a 3.1 mile, a 1-mile and a ½-mile race), and an obstacle course. The ½-mile race will be paved and suitable for all abilities, strollers and wheelchairs. After running (or not!), join us for a pancake breakfast. We encourage costumes, so be thinking of a silly getup for just you or your whole family! Come participate!.

Help support GIRLS at eSibonisweni! Proceeds from the Fun Run will benefit the Girls Scholarship Program at eSibonisweni and Mark Day School.

Many girls in South Africa are pulled out of school in the fourth grade to help out in the family home. The Girls' Scholarship Program is designed to help girls continue their education past the third grade.

Each year, the Girls' Scholarship Program at eSibonisweni provides benefits for up to 25 fourth through twelfth-grade girls selected according to merit. Benefits provided by the scholarship program include uniforms, backpacks, candles for studying after dark, and essential hygiene products. The program pays stipends to two teacher mentors who monitor the girls' progress and meet regularly with them to encourage and counsel them. It also pays for test preparation and travel to and fees for the national university entrance exam. We strive to help girls with their university room, board, and tuition.

Each additional year of an African girls’ education:

  • Increases her future income and contribution to her family and community

  • Lowers her risk of HIV infection

  • Improves her own health, educational and income outcomes and those of her future children

This year we have TEN girls attending FIVE different universities, including two at University of Johannesburg. While our initial goal was to help girls graduate from elementary and high school, our new goal is to support them all the way through university!

Please consider making an additional donation. This money makes a big impact:

$125 funds taking the National Exam for University placement, exam prep, and travel for 1 girl

$300 funds the Girls’ Scholarship Program for 1 girl for 1 year (uniforms, school supplies, mentoring, and tutoring).

$3,000 sends 1 girl to University for 1 year.

We currently have TEN girls in University. These are the first girls from the community to attend University. We need your help

“In previous years it was difficult to study but now I am able to study well because of girls scholarship. My life now start to change and I wish girls scholarship to grow and able to help other girls. Thank you for what you have done in my life.”
