The Junior Leader program helps teens develop the skills necessary to become effective camp counselors, responsible citizens, and leaders in their communities.

Applicants must be entering 8th -11th grade to be eligible for the program. A returned application does not guarantee participation in the program. If selected, Junior Leaders are required to attend a two day training session on June 21st and 22nd, and commit to attending a minimum of two weeks of camp during the summer (weeks do not have to be consecutive). Tuition per week is $100.00. Limited scholarships are available.

During the program, participants have the opportunity to intern with leadership staff, participate in service projects, assist with Day Camp programming, and learn basic CPR and First Aid. Junior Leaders will also be able to attend training sessions on basic child development, behavior management, counseling techniques, effective communication, leadership, and much more. Teens will eat with staff during mealtimes (meals provided by Camp Newaygo); receive a staff badge, and a staff T-shirt. Junior Leaders are able to attend camp trips, participate in daily waterfront activities, camp games, and all special events.
