Summer Courses for Credit General Information
Summer Courses for Credit are restricted to CHCA students enrolled for the following school year. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and opens on 01/20/26.
At registration, you will schedule a future automatic payment for the full amount. Payment is non-refundable and non-transferable after 02/23/26 at 12:00 p.m. Payments collected on 02/24/26. If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment, the scheduled payment will be cancelled before any fees are collected. If the cancellation impacts your student’s 2026-2027 course selections, you may contact us at that time for adjustments to their schedule.
Email the teacher directly if you have questions about the course content, workload, or syllabus. No classes are held on weekends.
Because summer course schedules are condensed and academic content is uncompromised, attendance is strictly enforced, and a student cannot pass a class for which he/she is not present for the stated meeting times. Please do not register for summer classes that conflict with the student’s other summer obligations.
Students will explore the field of creative writing and receive instruction that emphasizes the creative process and experimentation with elements of a variety of rhetorical modes. Student growth is encouraged by asking the writer to take risks with new forms and revision. By course end, students will have assembled a portfolio of original stories, poems, essays, and other pieces. Course counts as an Elective or Fine Arts credit, but not as an English graduation requirement.
The first day of class will be June 8th, and the course will run through August 7th. Students will complete the course independently and asynchronously throughout the summer. All assignments must be submitted on Canvas by August 7th. All course materials, including assignments and other resources, can be found on the Creative Writing Summer Canvas Page. I will update grades and missing assignments daily so students can easily track their progress. All information and resources needed for this course are available on Canvas.
Students are welcome to reach out to me at any time with questions or concerns. I am also happy to meet in person at school if additional support is needed throughout the course. Each Friday, students should contact me by email at katie.howarth@chca-oh.org to provide a brief update on their progress. These weekly check-ins help ensure students stay on track and will count toward their participation grade.
