Language Foundations: Grades 1–2
Overview:
This therapeutic, non-graded class provides evidence-based, multisensory literacy instruction for students with dyslexia and other reading-based learning differences. Sessions are taught by a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT).
Structure:
Instruction is delivered in groups of 2–3 students, using Orton-Gillingham-based tools like TakeFlight®, Wilson Reading System® (WRS), and Sequential English Education (SEE) with other tools integrated as appropriate and/or needed to supplement instructional goals.
- Students attend sessions 4-5 days per week for 30 minutes.
- Depending on scheduling needs, sessions may occur during Phonics, Spanish, and other times during the school day as needed to support flexible grouping and overall service delivery.
Focus Areas:
- Decoding and orthographic processing
- Reading accuracy and fluency
- Spelling and vocabulary development
- Written expression and language comprehension
Eligibility:
- Available to students in grades 1–2 with an active Individual Accommodation Plan (IAP) and a diagnosed reading difference (e.g., dyslexia).
- Individualized exceptions may occur for students that fall outside these general eligibility guidelines, if approved by the Director of The Study and Head of Lower School
Behavior Expectations:
Students are expected to participate with kindness, focus, and respect. The Study programs are supportive and encouraging learning spaces.
Cost:
Tuition is $9,500/year. Charges will be added to your Smart Tuition account and may be prorated based on enrollment date.
