Language Foundations: Grades 5–8
Overview: This therapeutic, non-graded class provides evidence-based, multisensory literacy instruction for students with dyslexia and other reading-based learning differences. Sessions are taught by a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT).
Structure: Students are scheduled into Language Foundations in place of their World Language class. Sessions meet for 50 minutes, 10 out of every 12 days in the six-day rotating schedule.
Instruction is delivered in small groups of 2–5 students. The curriculum is rooted in Orton-Gillingham principles and includes Sequential English Education (SEE) and Take Flight, with other structured language tools integrated as needed to support advanced literacy, executive functioning, and classroom success.
Focus Areas:
- Decoding, reading fluency, accuracy, and comprehension
- Spelling and vocabulary development
- Written expression and language organization
Eligibility: Available to students in grades 5–8 with an active Individual Accommodation Plan (IAP) and a diagnosed reading difference (e.g., dyslexia).
Behavior Expectations: Students are expected to participate with kindness, focus, and respect. The Study is a supportive and encouraging learning space.
Cost: Tuition is $8,250/year. Charges will be added to your Smart Tuition account and may be prorated based on enrollment date.
