Genetics
Description
Each of us is unique. Not only are we different in personalities and appearance, but also in how our bodies respond to medication. A medication that cures one person may not affect another. In the new field of Pharmacogenetics, scientists discover the genes that determine our body’s response to drugs and develop better ways to cure us of diseases such as cancer and depression.

Using many hands-on activities and games, we will learn about genetics. We will use the tools and techniques used by geneticists in laboratories worldwide, such as micropipettes, centrifuges, PCR machines, and electrophoresis, to conduct basic versions of Pharmacogenetics methods such as CRISPR, Prime Editing, and Gene Transformation. At the end of the week, parents are invited to see the poster each child prepared about their favorite genetics topic!
