Driver Education (Winter/Spring 2026)
Description
Driver Education takes place on the MPH campus and begins January 12 and runs through May 16. End date may change if classes or drives are cancelled due to weather conditions. Students must be 16 years old by the start of the course and possess a valid driving permit. Students attend theory and drive classes once a week, 1.5 hours each class/drive (three hours per week) to complete the required 24 hours of in-class and in-car requirements regulated and approved through the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles. Theory classes and behind-the-wheel instruction taught by certified driver education instructors. Students may miss no more than 2 theory classes and 2 drive classes. All missed classes/drives must be made up during the time of the course.

Upon completion of the course, students will receive an MV-285 Student Certificate of Completion from New York State. This certificate includes the NY pre-licensing 5-hour course requirements, an insurance reduction certificate, and allows 17-year-old drivers to upgrade to a senior license. Our goal is to teach our students to be the most responsible, safe drivers possible.
