Ukulele in the General Music Classroom
Description
The ʻukulele has quickly become a new and exciting instrument to share with young students. But new does not have to mean start over. Let’s experience ʻukulele teaching sequences that draw from principles of universal design for learning framed within recognizable elements of the Orff Approach. We’ll examine foundations of ‘ukulele technique to set you and your students up for joyful music making experiences. Additionally, we will discuss the intersections of classroom contexts, historical contexts, and the social responsibilities we have to our students as we play the ʻukulele together. Activities will be presented in transferrable ways to many modes of music-making in addition to the ʻukulele. EDU-565-PM8 – 1 Credit
