Focus on Fauna: Feathers and Flight
Description
Calling all bird enthusiasts (aka bird nerds)! The Pacific Flyway affords us a unique ability to see both resident and migratory bird species throughout the year. In celebration of migratory bird day, we invite you to come join us to learn the basics of photographing birds, small and large and in between. Participants will get hands on instruction and tips and tricks for great bird photography including how to deal with different light situations, how to frame the shot, and the nuances of featuring our feathered flighted neighbors in your pictures! Participants will get an opportunity to try their newfound skills with guided practice on Zoo grounds at a variety of different bird habitats. We hope participants will leave feeling more confident about taking the perfect pictures of birds and ways that they can use their skills to influence conservation! Appropriate for beginner to intermediate photographers.

Participants will learn:

  • tips and tricks for great bird photos

    • how to deal with different light situations

    • how to frame the shot and look at position with our feathered and flighted friends

    • oAn opportunity to practice newfound skills with guided practice on Zoo grounds at a variety of bird habitats.


We hope participants will leave feeling more confident about taking the perfect urban wildlife picture and ways that they can use their skills to influence conservation!

This course is appropriate for beginner to intermediate photographers.

Note: We will have DSLR cameras to borrow if you do not have your own.You will need to bring your own SD card.

About the Instructor: Marcus Donner is a visual storyteller with 35 years of experience as a professional photographer, photo editor, and photography instructor. He has photographed everything from presidents to fire breathers to great horned owls. His success as a teacher centers on the belief that everyone—no matter what their skill level—can take better photos. Marcus is the author of City Critters: Wildlife Photography In Your Own Backyard, Travel Photography for Everyone: Iceland, and Noodle Taco: A Taiwanese-Mexican-American Culinary Adventure. He has received numerous awards including two national feature photography awards from the Society of Professional Journalists. When he’s not taking pictures, Marcus volunteers with the Seattle Urban Carnivore Project, serves on the board of the Friends of Discovery Park, and enjoys wildlife spotting with his wife Peg.
