Writing Enrichment: Poetry in Motion
Description
This creative writing workshop invites rising 2nd graders to explore the joy of poetry and discover how writers use words to express ideas, feelings, and observations. Through playful mentor poems and shared read-alouds, campers will learn that poems can be short, fun, descriptive, and full of imagination. Each day, students will experiment with different types of poetry, such as sensory poems, I am poems, rhyming poems, and pattern poems, while building writing stamina and confidence.
Campers will practice choosing strong words, adding details, and revising their work with support, all in a low-pressure, encouraging environment. Throughout the week, campers will keep a Poetry Notebook where they draft, revise, and illustrate their writing. By the end of the workshop, students will create a personal poetry collection to take home, celebrating their growth as writers and their emerging voices.
This camp is perfect for young writers who are ready to play with language, build confidence in writing, and discover that poetry can come from anything they see, feel, or imagine.
