Reading Workshop-6th
Description
In this focused reading workshop, incoming 6th graders will make meaningful progress on their required summer reading selection while strengthening the habits expected in middle school Humanities.
Each day includes structured independent reading time paired with guided discussions that emphasize accountability, focus, and thoughtful engagement with the text. Students will analyze key literary elements, such as character development, conflict, setting, and theme, while practicing annotation strategies and discussion skills that support deeper comprehension. Through small-group conversations and teacher guidance, campers learn to ask insightful questions, support ideas with evidence, and articulate their thinking with confidence.
This workshop supports a smooth transition into 6th grade English by reinforcing strong reading routines and analytical skills before the school year begins. Families will receive a camp summary at the end of the week highlighting progress and areas of growth.
NOTE: The title and author of the required summer reading book will be shared via email in the spring.
