Minecraft Redstone Engineers
Description
Minecraft Redstone Engineers: Monday
Grades: 3-6
Time: 3:45-5:00 p.m.
Dates: 8/25-12/8
13 classes; No class dates: 9/1,10/13,11/24

Dive into the power of Redstone! Students will explore more complex circuitry, logic gates (AND, OR, NOT), and automation. They will design intricate contraptions like combination locks, complex automated farms, minecart transportation systems, and even basic calculators, learning the fundamental electrical and mechanical engineering principles.

Weekly Class Topics and Projects:

Week 1
Topic(s) Covered: Review of basic Redstone components, signal strength, Redstone torch properties.

Simple Project: Create a circuit where flipping one lever turns multiple lights on.

Week  2
Topic(s) Covered: Redstone repeaters and delay, locking repeaters.

Simple Project: Build a flashing light sequence using repeaters to create delays.

Week  3
Topic(s) Covered: T-Flip Flops (memory circuits).

Simple Project: Build a T-Flip Flop to convert a button press into a continuous on/off state for a door.

Week  4
Topic(s) Covered: Introduction to Logic Gates: NOT gate.

Simple Project: Build a NOT gate that inverts a Redstone signal.

Week  5
Topic(s) Covered: Logic Gates: AND gate.

Simple Project: Construct an AND gate that only activates a door when two specific levers are on.

Week  6
Topic(s) Covered: Logic Gates: OR gate.

Simple Project: Build an OR gate that activates a mechanism if either of two buttons is pressed.

Week  7
Topic(s) Covered: Logic Gates: XOR gate (basic principles).

Simple Project: Create an XOR gate that only activates if one, but not both, of two inputs are on.

Week  8
Topic(s) Covered: Redstone Comparators and their modes (comparison, subtraction).

Simple Project: Build a simple contraption that lights up only when a chest has more than 10 items.

Week  9
Topic(s) Covered: Automated farms: basic crop farm (revisited, more advanced).

Simple Project: Design and build an automated wheat farm that uses observers and pistons for harvesting.

Week  10
Topic(s) Covered: Minecart transportation systems: loading/unloading, powered rails.

Simple Project: Create a minecart loop with a loading station that automatically fills the cart from a chest.

Week  11
Topic(s) Covered: Item sorting systems using hoppers and comparators.

Simple Project: Build a basic item sorter that directs specific items (e.g., cobblestone) into one chest and other items into another.

Week  12
Topic(s) Covered: Designing complex traps and puzzles.

Simple Project: Build a multi-step Redstone puzzle involving levers, buttons, and hidden doors.

Week  13
Topic(s) Covered: Introduction to basic Redstone calculators (binary addition concept).

Simple Project: Build a simple 1-bit binary adder (showing the concept, not a full calculator).

Week  14
Topic(s) Covered: Comprehensive project: automated combination lock or advanced farm.

Simple Project: Design and build a functional Redstone combination lock for a vault or a more complex automatic farm (e.g., pumpkin/melon farm).
