NEW FOR WEEKENDS!! - Horse CRAZY!!



Spend the weekend getting Horse Crazy at Camp Kidwell! This hands-on specialty camp is designed to give campers an exciting opportunity to build confidence around horses, learn basic horsemanship skills, ride, and develop a special connection with their horse partner. Campers will work with Instructor Stacy throughout the weekend as they learn horse safety, grooming, riding skills, horse care, and what it takes to be a responsible horse person. Activities are designed to be fun and educational while allowing campers of different experience levels to participate comfortably.

Friday – Welcome & Get Horse Crazy!


Campers will kick off the weekend by meeting Instructor Stacy and their fellow Horse Crazy campers during a fun get-to-know-you session. They’ll learn what to expect from the weekend, talk about their horse experience and goals, and get ready for their first big day at the barn.

Saturday – Horses, Riding & Adventure!


Saturday is the main Horse Crazy adventure! Campers will learn important barn and horse safety, receive their riding gear assignments, and participate in a beginner-friendly grooming lesson. Each camper will complete a riding assessment so activities can be matched appropriately to their comfort and skill level. Campers will then put their skills to work through fun riding games in the arena or recreation field. In the afternoon, they’ll groom and prepare their horses before heading out for a trail ride adventure. Saturday evening features our special Bring-a-Friend at the Barn activity, where Horse Crazy campers can invite a non-horse Camp Kidwell friend to meet their horse and become the teacher by showing their friend how to safely meet, pet, and groom a horse. The day ends with campers helping with evening feeding, horse care, and turnout.

Sunday – Love Your Horse & Farewell


Sunday morning is dedicated to enjoying one last special visit with the horses. Campers will groom their horse partners, practice their favorite skills from the weekend, and learn about safe and appropriate horse treats. Each camper will have the opportunity to give their horse a well-earned treat and spend some quiet time brushing, loving on, and saying goodbye to their horse partner before wrapping up their Horse Crazy Camp experience.

No previous horse experience is necessary. Horse assignments and riding activities will be based on each camper’s comfort, experience, and ability, with safety always coming first.

Campers arrive on Friday evenings at 7pm and stay with us until Sunday at 1pm. Attendance varies from month to month. Campers are placed in cabin groups of up to 9 children and there are always 2 staff members(at least one adult) in each cabin.
