FinTeach™ – Financial Literacy & Stock Market Investing
Description
We can all agree that basic financial literacy and investing skills are vital for long-term success. Last July, Governor Newsom signed Assembly Bill 2927, essentially requiring that high school students complete a one-semester course in personal finance in order to graduate. Against this backdrop and in an effort to help our students stay ahead of the curve, this after-school club experience will offer collaborative opportunities to:

- understand the importance of basic economics

- get acquainted with common financial terms and concepts

- create family budgets and savings plans

- track major market indexes

- research and present stock investing ideas

- explore entrepreneurship

- consider the effects of generative AI in finance

- share financial literacy with others

The goal of this after-school club is to provide students with an early foundation in financial literacy, while offering practical opportunities to share/present ideas. To help keep our interactions engaging and non-repetitive, each meeting will begin with a discussion of current events. Students should come prepared to discuss real-life financial matters, from home or elsewhere. Mobile phone use will not be encouraged during club meetings; however, students should bring their Chromebooks for certain planned activities. Also, students should have at-home computer access to resources such as Google Finance, etc.
