Description
Open Sailing at Cornwell Sailing Center is designed for approved sailors who want more opportunities to get on the water, build confidence, and stay connected to the sailing community throughout the summer. ⛵️

Whether you’re continuing after a Learn to Sail course, preparing for an upcoming racing season, sailing recreationally with friends and family, or simply looking for more consistent time on the water, Open Sailing provides a flexible and welcoming environment that encourages lifelong participation in the sport.

Unlike formal instruction or structured racing programs, Open Sailing is intentionally relaxed and community-centered—creating space for sailors of all ages and experience levels to practice skills, enjoy the waterfront, and connect with others who share a passion for sailing.

Throughout the summer, we invite the local community to gather at Cornwell Sailing Center to rig up, launch, spend time on the water, and enjoy summer evenings together.

2026 Open Sailing Schedule

Tuesdays & Thursdays
June 23 – August 13
4:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Open Sailing Access

Sailors currently enrolled in qualifying Traverse Area Community Sailing Learn to Sail programs receive Open Sailing Access as part of their registration.

For sailors not currently enrolled in another qualifying TACS sailing program, an Open Sailing Season Pass is available.

Pricing

• Open Sailing Season Pass: $100 per sailor
• Open Sailing Drop-In Fee: $30 per sailor (pay on dock)
• Non-Sailing Guest Fee: $10 per guest (pay on dock)

Open Sailing Season Pass participants receive complimentary non-sailing guest passes throughout the season.

Sailors who attend four Open Sailing Drop-In sessions may apply their drop-in fees toward a Season Pass upgrade.

Boats are available on a first come, first served basis.
