Description
This is an in school project at LACS-- youth need to be enrolled in the program with teacher Desiree as well.
Signing up with 4-H allows youth to be transported to exciting project locations during school.

Nature Journaling / Birding Basics (double split)

In this project, we will begin the practice of nature journaling. You don’t have to be a great artist; our journaling will be about connecting with nature and noticing all there is to observe around us. When the weather is cooperative, we will head outside to see what we can notice–observe animal tracks, note interesting animal behavior, sketch plants in detail or the landscape, etc. When the weather is not so great, we will practice journaling skills and learn some birding basics, like how to use binoculars and ebird, and take a deeper look at sparrows, little brown songsters that are found on every continent except Antarctica. Together, we will explore topics within the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Bird Academy and then use our new knowledge to enhance our observations in the field. Things to consider: If you join this project, you must be willing to dress for the weather, spend time outside exploring and journaling, and be willing to share your discoveries with the group. You must also be willing to participate with our group in online lessons and indoor group activities. While we will be using online lessons, personal devices will need to be put away.
