Lacus Silvae: Latin Language Camp

Step into the world of Latin at Lacus Silvae — “The Lake of the Woods” — a two-week language camp where learners discover that Latin is much more than an ancient language.

Through immersive activities, games, lessons, literature and community life, villagers use Latin as a language of communication while exploring the cultures and ideas it has carried across time and around the world.
From ancient Rome to Latin’s influence on cultures from Mexico to China, campers discover how language connects people, stories, and history.

Lacus Silvae invites learners to approach the past as a place to explore, question, and understand rather than simply glorify or condemn. Along the way, they’ll consider both the possibilities and challenges of international connection and discover how a language that is no longer spoken as a native language continues to shape the modern world.

Running alongside Lago del Bosco, Lacus Silvae shares meals, recreation, waterfront activities, and other aspects of Italian village life while offering its own Latin-focused programming, lessons, and evening activities.

The result is a supportive community where learners can build language skills, explore global literature and cultures, and discover new ways to communicate across time.

Our two-week programs are our most popular, providing an opportunity to become truly immersed in Village life! Villagers build and enhance their language skills through small and large group learning activities, and by hearing and using the language - with the encouragement of our supportive staff - throughout their daily activities. By engaging in a variety of music, arts, sports and classic summer camp activities like campfires, singing songs, and more, villagers can increase their confidence, improve their language ability, and grow to become courageous global citizens. These programs welcome language learners of all levels.
