Description
Camp Crosley’s Leaders in Training (LIT) program is designed for 16- and 17-year-olds who are ready to grow as leaders, serve others, and take the next step toward young adulthood.
At Crosley, we believe some of the best leadership lessons are learned through service. That’s why LIT isn’t designed to simply be another week of summer camp. It’s an opportunity for teens to challenge themselves, take on greater responsibility, give back to the camp community, and discover what it means to lead by serving others.
Our goal is for LITs to leave the program more confident and prepared for what comes next—whether that's applying for college, preparing for a first job, becoming a future Camp Crosley staff member, or simply discovering more about who they are and the kind of leader they want to become.
And, of course, we do it all through the summer camp experience!
A Two-Week Leadership Experience
The LIT program is designed as a two-week experience consisting of Week A and Week B. We understand that committing to two full weeks isn't possible for every family, so Week B is a free, optional add-on that can be selected during registration.
Week A: Learn & Grow
All LIT participants begin with Week A. Throughout the week, LITs will:
-Shadow areas of camp that interest them, such as high ropes, target sports, waterfront, and other program areas.
-Participate in LIT-specific skill clinics focused on practical leadership and professional skills.
-Work through small-group challenges and experiences designed to strengthen communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and confidence.
-Explore what it means to serve others and lead within the Camp Crosley community.
Week A gives LITs the opportunity to learn, grow, and begin putting leadership into practice.
Week B: Lead & Serve
During the optional second week, LITs take what they've learned and put it into action. After participating in an abbreviated staff training experience, LITs will be paired with trained Camp Crosley mentor counselors and assist within a main camp cabin. They'll get a firsthand look at what it means to help create the Crosley experience for younger campers while continuing to develop their own leadership skills.
While LITs will take on additional responsibilities during Week B, they are still participants in the Camp Crosley program, not staff members, and will be supervised accordingly.
At the end of the experience, eligible LITs will also have the opportunity to participate in a formal interview for potential future employment with Camp Crosley. This gives participants the chance to practice interviewing while potentially taking the next step toward becoming a member of our summer staff team.
Before Summer Begins
All prospective LIT participants and their parents/guardians will take part in an online orientation before the summer. During this session, we'll talk through program expectations, answer questions, and give families and LITs an opportunity to identify what they hope to gain from the experience.
The LIT program is about more than preparing teens to work at camp. It's about helping young people discover their strengths, grow in confidence, serve others, and understand that leadership isn't just about being in charge—it's about making a positive difference in the lives of others.
