Ms. Joy's Beginning/Intermediate Fall Painting Workshop: What Color is Water?"
Description
Former Lower School art teacher and professional artist, Joy Liberman will offer painting workshops for students in grades 6-12 at various skill levels. These workshops are open to current SPA students, and are designed to broaden visual awareness and assist in the development of skills with painting media. Lessons address individual goals and include technical instruction, warm-up exercises and group discussion. Small class sizes ensure individualized attention. Each workshop begins with an introduction and reinforcement of the use of acrylic paint media.
What Color is Water?--Course Description:
Most people would say that water is blue, but its reflective nature can magically transform it into a spectrum of hues. We will look at many examples of this fluid phenomenon and students will decide how they wish to capture it on canvas. This may take the form of a seascape at sunset, a
gushing waterfall, a still glass of water or anything in between.
The goals of this workshop are to introduce and reinforce the fundamentals of working with acrylic paints. Learning the basic color palette, setting up the palette, color mixing, brush techniques and proper clean-up procedures are the foundations of a positive painting experience. The five session course is designed to broaden visual awareness and assist in the development of skills and individual expression. A maximum class size of 8 ensures plenty of personal attention.
A guide to workshop skill levels:
Beginning: Students grades 6 through 8 who have not painted with acrylic paints or who have very limited experience.
Beginning/Intermediate: Students in grades 6 through 8 who have had some instruction with acrylic painting techniques and who have made several paintings.
Intermediate/Advanced: Students in grades 8 through 12 who have had some instruction with acrylic painting techniques and have made several paintings.
Advanced: Students in grades 8 through 12 who have done extensive work with acrylic or oil painting media. These students, after working on class studies, may work on independent projects with instructor's guidance.
