Handbuilding (Winter)
Description
Handbuilding | with Jennifer Zona
Handbuilding is an ancient pottery-making technique that involves creating forms without a pottery wheel, using the hands, fingers, and simple tools. We will cover the techniques of pinching, coiling and slab building. Once you have experience with these three methods, you can make just about any object out of clay. We start with pinching, and build upon the technique with coiling, then to slab construction. This class will introduce the basic handbuilding techniques used to build functional and sculptural forms. No previous experience in clay is needed for this class.
All adult ceramics students must purchase a 25-pound bag of clay. Students have full access to studio glazes and equipment, one shelf, open studio schedule, and space in scheduled kiln firings. Beginning students should purchase a basic pottery tool kit for class (not included in the price of tuition). Clay not included with the price of class.
