Description
VEX IQ Robotics Summer Camp (9-2 pm)
2-4 pm will be Public Speaking, Debate & Creative Writing
Join our Robotics Summer Camp for a hands-on introduction to VEX IQ robotics. Students will learn to design, build, and program a robot using the REC Foundation’s Mix & Match Challenge. Working in teams, they will explore basic engineering concepts, problem-solving, and collaboration through fun group activities.
The camp concludes with a final scrimmage, giving students the chance to test their robots and experience friendly competition. It’s a great way for young tech enthusiasts and budding engineers to gain confidence, creativity, and teamwork skills, while deciding if they’d like to continue their journey in robotics.
Public Speaking:
This program helps students build strong communication skills by learning how to speak with confidence, purpose, and impact. Campers work on structuring their thoughts, improving articulation, and controlling tone, pace, and volume to communicate effectively. Through speeches, impromptu speaking, storytelling, and group discussions, students learn to express opinions clearly, think on their feet, and engage an audience. Emphasis is placed on confident delivery, audience awareness, and real-world communication skills that support success in school presentations, leadership roles, debates, and everyday interactions.
Debate:
Students learn how to structure arguments, present persuasive points, and respectfully counter opposing views. Through interactive exercises and friendly debates, they build critical thinking, reasoning skills, and teamwork, while enjoying a dynamic and supportive environment.
Creative Writing
Campers explore the art of storytelling and written expression, learning how to craft engaging narratives, develop characters, and create vivid settings. Through fun writing exercises, prompts, and collaborative projects, students strengthen their imagination, language skills, and ability to communicate ideas effectively. Time permitting, they may also share their stories with peers in a supportive and interactive environment.
