Checkmate IQ Session 1
Description
New this year! We are thrilled to introduce you to ‘Checkmate IQ,’ an exciting chess coaching program that’s here to take your child’s chess journey to the next level! Founded by former staff member and chess tutor Ethan Caballeros, Checkmate IQ is designed with a passion for the game and a commitment to nurturing young minds.

Checkmate IQ will have limited space, available to the first 12 campers who sign up. We will meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays the first 2 weeks of camp. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of week 3. Each day, Checkmate IQ will take place during post camp between 4pm and 5pm (we ask that you pick up no earlier than 5pm on these days)

We believe in personalized coaching tailored to your child’s needs and existing chess knowledge. Whether they’re an absolute beginner, an intermediate player, or an advanced chess enthusiast, our curriculum adapts accordingly. Beginners will learn the basics and essential tactics, intermediates will explore advanced concepts like openings and tactics, and advanced players will dive into endgames, advanced tactics, and openings.

When you sign up for Checkmate IQ, you’re not just joining a chess program; you’re joining a community of passionate chess enthusiasts dedicated to your child’s growth. We offer the option for parents to receive updates on their child’s progress, allowing you to witness their chess skills and cognitive abilities flourish.

At the heart of Checkmate IQ is ‘Grandmaster’s Gambit,’ a unique 12-day curriculum adapted for Go West summer camp. Your child will embark on a chess odyssey, meeting after camp (during post camp 4pm-5pm) for one-hour sessions, where they’ll delve deep into chess strategy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

What makes ‘Grandmaster’s Gambit’ special? It’s more than just chess lessons; it’s a dynamic learning experience that fosters a love for the game. Your child’s performance during these sessions will earn them ‘Royal Shards,’ which can be used to ‘buy’ special cards for the Grandmaster’s Gambit tournament held at the end of the program.

The Grandmaster’s Gambit tournament is an open event, so you’re invited to watch your child play chess in a fun variant of the game called ‘Grandmaster’s Gambit.’ This Variant combines Chess and classic Deck-building card games into one. It’s a fantastic opportunity to see your child’s newfound skills in action and share in their chess adventure.

Don’t miss this opportunity to ignite your child’s love for chess, develop essential life skills, and witness their chess journey unfold in an engaging, supportive, and fun environment. Join us at Checkmate IQ, where every move is a step closer to becoming a Grandmaster!
