Foundations for Freshman Year: Part 2
7/16/2018 - 7/20/2018
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Grade 9
Registration for this session is no longer available
The freshman year is a challenging one for many students, and those who begin ninth-grade English with a strong foundation are much more likely to succeed. This course is designed to be an amulet, a talisman for any rising ninth-grade adventurer in search of the knowledge and skill that will empower him for the adventure that awaits. It should be especially helpful for those who have experienced difficulty with reading or writing assignments in the eighth grade, and for those who are reluctant to read or who feel intimidated by their summer reading assignment. We will spend about half of our class time reading and will try to finish reading and discussing at least one of the two assigned summer reading books. We will devote the rest of our time to developing skills and strategies for reading, writing, vocabulary study, and organization. This is a two week course, and both weeks are recommended. However, students have the option to attend just one week. For a more detailed description of the course, please e-mail James Hane (hanej@heathwood.org).
