The Glacier National Park/Banff, Canada Summer Expedition is designed for high school students (rising 9th-12th grade) who are interested in hiking and camping in some of the most beautiful places on earth. Known as the “Crown of the Continent,” Glacier National Park sits on the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains of northwestern Montana and borders Waterton Lakes National Park in Canada. Together, the two Parks are designated as Biosphere Reserves and World Heritage Sites, encompassing headwaters for streams that flow to the Pacific Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico and Hudson Bay. The Parks are home to interesting animal species like grizzly bears, wolves, moose, bighorn sheep and mountain goats and currently contain over 25 active glaciers in addition to a variety of ecosystems ranging from alpine environments to lush evergreen forests to rolling prairies.

On this expedition, participants embark on a series of day hikes that offer opportunities to explore each of the three main regions of Glacier National Park and into Waterton National Park, as well. Basecamps will be established in designated campsites that allow access to the bountiful pristine wilderness that exists in this region of the Rocky Mountains.

Additionally, the expedition team will travel to Banff, a well-known, scenic town on the front range of the Canadian Rockies in Alberta, Canada for more wilderness exploration. We hope to take in the Calgary Stampede, a world famous rodeo in Calgary, Alberta. Calgary is a real cowboy town and is located near Banff.

Cost for the trip is $975 plus airfare. Group camping gear is provided, including tents, cook stoves, pot sets. The PEAK program has a limited number of backpacks, sleeping bags and sleeping pads available for loan.
