Expertos en Español
Description
Come join Wildwood's middle school spanish teacher, Caroline, for a weeklong "mini course" that introduces students to Spanish language and culture and is designed to explore Spanish through the traditions, customs, and culture of Spanish-speaking countries. The vocabulary, structures, and cultural points acquired in this course are introduced through stories, songs, or pictures. Students will be able to communicate using some common and high-frequency language including the "super seven" verbs (to go, to be, to like, to have, to want, there is and there are) from the first, second and third person forms through various activities that include games, acting, illustrating, co-writing stories with the teacher, and answering direct questions during calendar talks and student interviews. Students at this level will start to communicate on some very familiar topics using single words and phrases that are recycled and used in context throughout the day. Thematic units focusing on traditions and cultural practices of the Spanish speaking world, such as La Tomatina in Spain, serve as the content for the lessons. Other topics include giving and asking for some basic information in Spanish (name, age, origin, likes, dislikes), greeting and saying farewell to people, talking about family and weather as well as understanding some common practices, products, and perspectives of Spanish speaking cultures that include food, music and special festivals such as La Tomatina in Buñol, Spain.
