Storybook Cooking and Treats 2 - The Sequel! (Mondays) Spring S1
Description
There are few things that excite children more than the prospect of cooking or making their own treats! Using even more of their favorite stories as inspiration for the recipes and treats just adds to the fun. Join Suzy Brooks in this hands-on class where children experience the joy of reading and discussing food themed stories, then eating the featured food they have had a hand in making. Each week we will read books about pancakes and french toast racing in Fridgeland, the history and science of popping corn, a burro whose friends learn a lesson and many other classic children’s tales. Then children help prepare the food or make a treat that has a starring role in the story of the day. Children learn to manage impulsivity as they wait patiently for all ingredients to be distributed. They listen carefully and follow step by step directions as they learn about the chemical reactions in dough when heat is applied (why we don't over-handle cold dough in our hot little hands) why popcorn actually pops and other food based facts. In addition to cooking, student will earn and practice basic safety rules, the importance of cleanliness, and how to "not share germs" during food preparation. Some stories and foods will be familiar favorites, some will be new and exciting but all will be loved. Of course, the best part for the students will be eating the final result. Don't miss out on all the fun! (Ingredients will be peanut free but due to the highly specific food items required, substitutions cannot be made for other allergies.)
