Introduction to Modern Fencing (Tuesdays) Fall S2
Description
This course teaches young athletes the foundational elements of modern day epee fencing, one of the three modern disciplines of Olympic fencing. The class focuses on teaching students’ fundamental athletic abilities applicable to any sport including coordination, balance, agility, timing, speed, strength, and quick decision-making using structured drills and games. Students will begin learning the fundamentals of epee fencing using foam swords and will progress to using stiffer plastic swords with protective masks and jackets. Fundamentals of fencing include the rules of modern epee fencing, sword safety, the fencing en garde position and how to move like a fencer, how to attack and defend, and basic tactics and strategies.
