Genius Art - Holiday Fine Art (Tuesdays) Fall S2
Description
Art is such an important part of a child’s development. Most teachers try to incorporate holiday themes in their lesson plans and children often enjoy the "process art" of making cotton ball snowmen or paper plate pumpkins along with the academic curriculum they need. However, Suzy Brooks art class will take the students' art experience to the next level by teaching them the fine art of drawing and painting. They will have a sense of wonder and awe at the recognizable seasonally themed subject matter they produce and will want to frame it! We will learn to create depth and shading by layering colors in a pumpkin patch, use highlight spots to make holiday icons shine and learn to make our designs up close and off the page to create interest. Subject matter and mediums used will vary and be chosen to correspond with the students’ developmental age and fine motor ability. By focusing on producing directed works of art, children learn to take their time and complete projects in stages, (usually two class periods per project) adding details as they go with the goal of a finished project in mind.
