Chefs in Training-Beginning Cake Decorating
Description
Have you ever wanted to create cakes and cupcakes like professional bakers do? This fun and unique class is the first step to creating those edible works of art. Learn the basics of using buttercream icing to decorate cakes for all occasions from former professional cake artist Suzy Brooks. Students will use professional decorator tools to create a variety of textured frosting effects. Due to the hand strength and level of piping skill required, this class is designed with the older camper in mind. Students will begin by practicing their piping techniques with a variety of tips and disposable icing bags on decorator practice boards, graham crackers, cookies or even cupcakes. By the end of the week, students will have learned how to crumb coat a cake, how to frost a cake smoothly with an offset spatula, and how to prepare the iced surface for decorating. At the end of the week, capers will take home a 6" round cake designed by them and decorated using the techniques they have learned. Each student will receive several piping tips (stainless steel decorating tubes) a quick-change coupler, and an icing bag to ensure that they can continue to practice their skills at home! Due to the materials used and space needed, there is a limited number of spots available so please sign up early!
