Puppet Theater & Engineering: A Week of Creative Tinkering

Is your child ready to bring their imagination to life through wood, wire, and wheels? Join Rediscover Center for a specialized week-long tinkering intensive hosted right here at Wildwood.This isn't just an arts-and-crafts program—it’s a hands-on dive into the world of mechanical storytelling.

The Experience
Over the course of the week, campers will transform from "makers" into "engineers and performers." Using real tools and professional-grade materials, students will design and build their own large-scale puppets and a collaborative theatrical stage.

What They’ll Learn
We blend the magic of the theater with the rigor of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math):
Tool Fluency: Under expert supervision, campers will learn to safely use drills, saws, clamps, and drivers.

Mechanical Engineering: We’ll explore linkages, levers, and pulleys to create moving mouths, flapping wings, and waving limbs.
Structural Integrity: How do you build a puppet that is lightweight enough to carry but strong enough to perform?

Creative Problem Solving: Every design challenge is a lesson in trial, error, and iteration.

The Grand Finale
The week culminates in a live puppet showcase! Campers will work together to develop short performances, using their hand-built characters to tell stories that move—literally and figuratively.
