Recycled Art Lab
Description
Join Manu, 2nd grade associate and Carolyn, 2nd grade teacher, in a class where students explore creativity and environmental responsibility by transforming recycled materials into original creations. Each session introduces a variety of upcycled and unconventional materials, which children learn to combine using simple tools such as glue, tape, scissors, and cardboard connectors or screws.
Students will work with recycled materials including cardboard boxes, paper towel and toilet paper rolls, bottle caps, plastic containers, egg cartons, paper scraps, and other clean reused items.
This class is open-ended and encourages problem-solving, imagination, and independent thinking rather than step-by-step projects. Through hands-on making and brief group discussions, students learn why recycling matters and how “waste” can be reused in creative and meaningful ways. Projects are entirely student-driven, allowing each child to design, build, experiment, and revise at their own pace while developing confidence in their ideas and creative choices.
