Once Upon a Pencil
Description
Once Upon a Pencil: Creative Writing Adventures
Get ready to unleash your imagination! In Once Upon a Pencil, young authors will dive into the magical worlds of both classic tales and modern stories as we explore mentor texts that spark ideas and inspire creativity. Through reading and discussion, students will discover what makes a story shine—then use those discoveries to craft their own original poems, short stories, and more.
From silly stories to magical adventures and heartfelt moments, this class encourages self-expression, builds confidence, and turns every student into a storyteller. At the end of our 8-week journey, each child will receive a professionally bound book of their collected works—a timeless keepsake to treasure and share for years to come.
With over 25 years of education experience, having taught in grades K–5, Sarah Simon, Assistant Director of Elementary, brings a deep passion for children's literature and a commitment to nurturing young readers and writers. She has attended numerous reading and writing conferences focused on best practices and student engagement, continually refining her approach to inspire creativity and critical thinking. Known for using literature as a springboard for meaningful projects and deep learning, Sarah creates learning experiences that keep students motivated and excited about reading and eager to express themselves through writing.
