American Government
Description
The primary goal of this class is to build an understanding of the structure and workings of the United States Government. This will be fulfilled through a study of the Constitution and the three branches of the U.S. Government: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. Once this foundation is understood, we will springboard into the complexities of politics, including Civil Rights, Civil Liberties, Voters, Political Parties, Interest Groups, and the Media. This course will lay an excellent foundation for understanding timely and current political issues and events and will prepare students with no prior Civics or Government background to take the Advanced Placement Government and Politics class in the 2025-2026 school year.
This class will be a hybrid of online and in-person instruction based on students' schedules. The course is only open to students entering Grades 9-12 at Canterbury.
