Madrichimot - 8th/9th grade
Description
The Madrichimot report directly to the Teen Engagement Manager. It is a part-time position, working up to 4 hours/week. Madrichimot will be responsible for supporting the learning, culture, and growth of the Edah pathway and the general Berkeley Afterschool program. They will care deeply and work passionately with children and educators, participate in circle time, song sessions and games.
Classroom Planning
● Co-facilitate Hebrew Jewish learning for children in grades K-5.
● Co-facilitate specialty programming for children based on teacher guidelines. Could be based on your specific expertise. We are especially interested in people with expertise in cooking, multimedia technology and communications, music, nature, drama, arts and crafts, and sports.
Student Support
● Work one on one with children that need support in Hebrew or socially.
● Interact one on one with kids by playing games, talking, drawing, etc.
● Assist in larger group activities.
● Play during Hafsaka (break) with kids.
● Assist in serving and cleaning up snack.
General
● Commitment to the mission of the JCC East Bay and knowledge of or commitment to
learning about the Jewish community, values, and traditions.
● Organize spaces at the end of the day.
● Assist in family engagement events
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
● Currently in or entering 8th-12th grade in Fall 2026.
● Background and experience in Jewish education and arts education.
● Hebrew language fluency (native or very strong) preferred.
● Experience in a childcare setting or equivalent experience.
● Knowledge of Jewish tradition, ritual, and texts.
● Excellent communication skills.
● Must be available to work weekdays, in the afternoons, 1-2 days/week
● Ability to work in a team.
● Physical requirements entail:
o Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
o Ability to sit on floors and chairs, and to get up and down quickly.
o Ability to bend from knees and waist to help a child.
o Ability to respond without delay to the needs of young children.
The annual stipend for this position is:
8th Grade: $700*
9th Grade: $1400*
10th-12th Grade: Minimum wage, with an increase if it is your second or third year
Note: 8th and 9th graders’ stipend is dependent on attendance both during the school year and the five mandatory training sessions.
