Crafting Short Stories
Description
Who doesn't love a great short story? A powerful piece of short fiction can cause us to laugh out loud, cry tears of sadness or joy, or even raise goosebumps and send shivers down our spines. How do they do that? Join math teacher Katie (who is also a certified librarian!) to explore how to construct poignant short stories that really make an impact on readers. Campers will begin by learning the structure of and process for writing narrative short fiction. Over the course of the week, we will read and analyze many impactful short stories from a variety of genres, diverse authors, and time periods ranging from 1839 to 2021. Throughout the week, campers will be given plenty of time to begin crafting their own works of short fiction. No need to bring a device; brainstorming, outlining and drafting will be done by hand in notebooks provided by the camp.
