Assistant Counselor Application
Description
The Lead and Assistant Camp Counselors are responsible for overseeing the well-being, safety, and engagement of a group of 10 campers. Counselors will support the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of their campers, ensuring a safe and positive camp experience. Orientation and training will be provided before camp, including an introduction to Hope for Kid’s policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Camper Supervision and Care:
- Ensure campers are sleeping, eating, and accessing the first aid station for any medical needs.
- Support campers with daily routines, including morning and bedtime activities, ensuring all campers are accounted for and comfortable.
Daily Schedule Management :
- Assist campers with morning routines starting around 7:00/7:30 AM, ensuring they are prepared for the day’s activities.
- Oversee camper attendance at meals and campwide events.
- Escort campers to lessons and activities, promoting active participation.
- Supervise specific activity periods as assigned.
Behavioral and Emotional Support :
- Collaborate with Ministry Directors for support with any emotional or behavioral issues within the cabin.
- Foster a team oriented and supportive environment, facilitating group discussions and spiritual growth.
Mandatory Meetings and Check Ins:
- Attend counselor orientation, the Saturday night before the program starts.
- Attend lunch counselor meetings.
- Communicate regularly with Ministry Directors to discuss camper needs and receive guidance.
End-of-Day Responsibilities :
- Assist campers with bedtime routines, including ensuring they receive any evening medications.
- Maintain a safe environment by enforcing lights out and cabin rules, remaining with campers overnight.
Typical Daily Schedule:
- Morning: Assist campers with morning preparations, attend breakfast (8:00 AM), and ensure participation in lessons and events.
- Midday: Direct campers to lunch (12:30 PM) and attend counselor meetings with Ministry Directors.
- Afternoon: Supervise rest period and canteen time (3:00 PM), assist with activities and challenges until dinner.
- Evening: Ensure campers attend evening sessions, address any needs, provide canteen treats, and prepare campers for bedtime, ensuring lights out compliance.
Accommodations:
- You will be staying in a cabin with 12 twin camp beds, each with a camp mattress, and a shared bathroom.
- Please bring your own bedding and toiletries.
- The cabins are not air conditioned but most cabins are equipped with ceiling fans. Additional fans are available in the Great Hall supply closet if needed.
Qualifications:
- A baptized disciple in good standing in their local church fellowship.
- Two recommendations, one being from a current ministry leader.
- Clearances and approval from Hope for Kids.
- Passion for working with youth, with a focus on fostering growth in a positive and structured environment.
- Ability to manage daily schedules, ensure camper safety, and work in a collaborative team environment.
- Strong communication and problem solving skills to effectively handle behavioral or emotional situations in coordination with camp leadership.
