Stewardship Academy at Emerson
Description
Instructors: Matt Nolan & Ryan Becker
Emerson is excited to introduce this new and unique two week, full-day, nature-focused, and project-based learning experience! Together, we will focus on stewardship of the environment by nurturing chickens, spending time with worms, and planting trees in and around Emerson’s garden. We will also enhance the site through a building project, such as constructing a bench or an arbor. This will entail utilizing applicable math skills to improve the garden for future generations. In addition, we will work to build community by dedicating time each day to wellness activities, journaling, and community circles.
As a final project, campers will plan and cook a meal for family and friends on our last day of camp. To prepare for this meal, we will investigate the geographical, historical, cultural, and environmental significance of the meal that we choose to create. This will include taking a field trip to an area farm to gather supplies, learn from a local business, and lend a hand. Campers will present what they have learned alongside their tasty meal, celebrating and valuing the many ways that they have acted as stewards for the world around them.
Note: To participate in this experience, you must register for and commit to the entire two week duration of the camp (July 7-11 and July 14-18). The total camp fee of $500 accounts for the entire two week duration of the camp ($250/week).
