Studio Ghibli-Inspired Art with the Diana Stein Art Gallery (Fall)
Description
In this art-focused class, students will take inspiration from the imaginative films of Studio Ghibli, including works by Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. Through guided viewings of select scenes—from films like My Neighbor Totoro—students will explore how these filmmakers use visual storytelling, atmosphere, and emotion to bring their worlds to life.
Using a variety of art materials and techniques, students will create original works inspired by the themes, characters, and environments found in Ghibli’s films. Projects may include drawing, painting, character design, or landscape illustration, with a focus on creative interpretation rather than replication.
This class invites students to slow down, observe carefully, and express their own imaginative ideas through art—just as the Ghibli animators do.
