Chess
This chess class introduces students to the game's fundamental rules, moves, and concepts through interactive puzzles, demonstrations, and practice games. Students learn how to move each piece, understand check and checkmate, special moves like castling, and basic tactics such as capturing and defending. The curriculum also covers the basic principles of the opening, middle game, and endgame, along with basic chess notation. By the end of this class, students will be able to set up a chess board correctly and understand legal moves; identify and execute basic tactics and strategies; understand and implement check and checkmate; apply special moves and understand how a game ends; and develop foundational problem-solving, strategic thinking, and logical reasoning skills.
