Summer Institute - Creative Writing
Description
Eligible students are entering grade 11–12

In Creative Writing, students read and write poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction, and personal essays in order to develop and expand their skills as both readers and writers in a variety of genres. Through Round Table discussion, students study multiple examples of each form and then compose their own pieces inspired by model texts. This course provides a positive environment for students to experiment and take risks in their written expression, as well as enhance word choice, sentence variety, authenticity, and personality in their writing. For rising seniors, we will have the chance to devise and workshop their college essay. Throughout the course, students workshop each other’s pieces and rely on their robust Round Table skills to give and receive constructive critical feedback. At the end of the course, students generate a portfolio of their best work.
