Description
The Geneva Jazz Program, directed by Eric Mendez, seeks to cultivate an appreciation for Jazz as America’s unique contribution to the world of music. This is accomplished by studying and performing the music of the many jazz luminaries who have graced our history in this genre.

The mission of this program is to nurture a love and enjoyment for the jazz idiom, cultivating proficiency on a jazz instrument of choice, learning musical elements, and sharing this learned knowledge with the community.

Geneva Jazz is for intermediate/advanced band musicians in grades 9–12 who have achieved a high degree of proficiency on their instrument and reflect a dedication to furthering their development in the musical arts.

Students will perform at the Upper School Christmas Concert, Spring Showcase, and other school events as opportunities arise. Also, Geneva Jazz has participated in local jazz festivals over the last two years, featuring performances at the Lakeside Jazz Festival in Daytona, and the Orange Blossom Jazz Festival in Apopka. It is hoped this tradition will continue.

Geneva Jazz meets on Mondays and Thursdays mornings, 7:15–8:15 am in the Riley Arena band room.
