SBMA Studio Program Code of Conduct
The following actions and behaviors are inconsistent with the South Bend Museum of Art’s expectations for membership in our community and vision. Questions can be directed to Katie Neece, Curator of Education and Studio Programs and Kolton Sizer, Curator of Education and Public Programs: neecek@southbendart.org and sizerk@southbendart.org -Please refrain from behavior or communication that could be experienced as hurtful or unwelcome by others -Actions that seemingly affect only the individual(s) involved, but which may have a negative or disruptive impact on the SBMA community and/or concern a student’s growth and development -Alcohol/drug possession and use on the museum premises -Behavior that causes a serious disturbance of the SBMA community or infringes upon the rights and well-being of others and other students -Failure to follow the directive of SBMA’s standards aimed at protecting health or safety, or necessary for the good order and proper functioning of the SBMA -community -Responsibility for guests -Responsibility for complying with SBMA’s Open Studio and studio policies -Responsibility for cleaning up studio spaces after use -Sexual activity, deviance, or misconduct -Willful damage to the reputation or psychological well­-being of another -Willful damage to SBMA property or defacement -Abusive messaging, language, or inappropriate slander that is harmful to the environment of SBMA studio spaces, staff, or guests -Verbal, written, or sexual harassment _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Depending upon the circumstances, violations of these behavioral standards will call into question a continued full participation in the SBMA community. -Actions that compromise the safety of the SBMA community -Harassment of staff, museum employees, museum volunteers, or board members -Dishonesty, forgery, or taking advantage of another -Drugs and controlled substances -Instructing under the influence of alcohol or drugs -Retaliation -Sexual and discriminatory harassment -Theft or unauthorized possession of SBMA property, studio equipment, or materials -Vandalism or damage to property -Unauthorized possession of explosives, incendiary devices, firearms, or other weapons -Violence or the threat of violence against another person, or any action that causes injury to another person -Tampering with SBMA studio equipment and materials without authorization from SBMA Education Department and staff (this includes kilns, heavy machinery, air vents, and circulation) -Tampering with glazes or purposely damaging an individual's artwork -Actions that compromise studio property: cleanup, upkeep, and use of spaces -Compliance with rules and regulations set by the South Bend Museum of Art studio policies. -Students' responsibility to read and understand the area and department studio policies.

Studio 1-3 Policies
Open Studio Pass for 2D ensures the user can access the studio space during Open Studio Hours posted on the website and at the front desk. The user is responsible for returning the studio key after they use the studio to the front desk. If the studio user does not return the key, access to the studio will be revoked. Studio users will be responsible for cleaning their area upon leaving the studio, if this is not followed studio access will be revoked. Personal materials and supplies will be the responsibility of the artist. Using open studios entitles you to Studios 1-3 space tables, easels, chairs, and sinks. Studio users are responsible for bringing their materials. If a studio user is utilizing the print press, please return the blankets to their original place. Blankets and surrounding materials must be clean and ready to use for the next person. Easels must be wiped clean and ready for the next person. Failure to do so will result in revoked access to the studio. Should the studio user need to store any materials or artwork, they must consult the Education Department. The education department is not responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen materials in the studio. This studio is a public space and Studio 1-3 has many functions. The studio user also understands that the cancellation of Open Studio hours is at the discretion of SBMA and the Education Department. Should something come up, the Education Department reserves the right to cancel Open Studios to use the studio space if necessary. However, the Education Department will make every effort to compensate for missed hours if necessary. Open Studio users are required to have taken one 2D course within 1 year of using the 2D Open Studio Pass.
