Curriculum For 8 Week Lego Class
NO CLASS on April 15th and May 27th
Week 1: Super Structure Challenge – Students will build a skyscraper that can withstand an earthquake simulation. There will be a competition to determine the tallest and sturdiest tower. Winners will receive points that will determine prizes!
Week 2: Bridge Building Challenge – Design and build a bridge that can actually sustain weight. Students will be able to see whose bridge can support the most weight.
Week 3: Catapult Challenge – We will be creating catapults and students will experiment how different factors like height and position affect launch distances. There will be a competition to see whose catapult can launch a Lego piece the farthest.
Week 4: Car Racing – Students will create their own cars and observe how the shape, weight, and length will impact the speed of the car. We will be recording how fast the cars can go down a ramp to determine the fastest car.
Week 5: Building Boats – In this challenge, students will create a boat out of Legos that can float. The competition will be to see which boat can hold the most number of pieces before sinking.
Week 6: Charades – This is a more creative and open ended challenge as students must recreate things like their “favorite food” or “favorite sport” out of Lego. It will challenge them to think outside of the box to come up with innovative ways to build their object.
Week 7: Wind Turbines – We will be building wind turbines out of Legos. Students can see how the shape and size of the turbine blades affect how fast they rotate.
Week 8: Final Class/Free Play – Students have the opportunity to revisit previous challenges or build whatever they want. In this class, certificates and candy will be handed out to all participants. Students with the most points through all the challenges will get a Lego set!
