Description
For many years Moon Beach has offered Rainbow
Family Camps for GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, and
transgender) headed families and for our PFLAG
(parents, families and friends of lesbians and gays)
allies. Whether you have been with us since the
beginning or if this will be your first time at the
Rainbow Retreat, we welcome you!

We start with camp activities like boating, swimming,
group games and crafts, then add
programmed activities for every age. Mix in plenty
of free time, inclusive worship, rest, and great family
style meals. Enhancing the week is reconnecting
with old friends and meeting new ones, a generous
portion of laughter, and loads of acceptance. All of
this — and more — is the foundation of the Rainbow Retreat.

Planned activities are offered for various age groups
from the youngest campers to adults to encourage
play, learning, sharing, and discussion. Group
discussion and activity times will follow the UCC
outdoor curriculum which explores “spiritual
practices.” There are so many things that people find
helpful as they strive to focus on and nurture their
spiritual self. Some walk a labyrinth, others simply
take a walk. There’s journaling, poetry, writing,
yoga, music — and much more. We’ll explore and
share ways that we feed our own faith and take time
to care for ourselves.

Creating an environment where all feel respected
and valued is essential to making the Rainbow Retreat a success. Whether in a casual conversation, a
group discussion, or at worship each person is
treasured for the person they are and the gifts they
bring to our common life. A daily vespers time is
offered, led by volunteer participants. These worship
experiences have brought together a variety of faith
perspectives represented at Rainbow Retreat
and are open for all campers to participate.

As is the case in all of the family camps, families
take many different forms. Families may include two
adult households, single parent homes, singles, and
other family groups with children of all ages. All family groups are welcome at camp!

In addition to any support from your home church UCCI has established a scholarship fund through the generosity of past campers. Scholarship application forms are available on our web site at www.ucci.org or by contacting the Managing Director at the site you are planning to attend. All scholarship inquiries are confidential.
